Plastics Technology
Plastics technology has emerged from process engineering as an independent branch of research. It is concerned with the research and application of physical, chemical, biological and physiological properties of plastics.
The aim of research in the area of plastics technology is to develop or select plastics which possess properties required for a specific application. This includes both the search for new applications, the optimisation of processing operations and designing of components in a way that is appropriate in terms of material and manufacture.
The main specialist areas and areas of application of plastics technology are included in sections A and B of the International Patent Classification (IPC).
